McJunkins named county, district Farm Family
Bar MC Ranch, owned by Adam and Darla McJunkins of Dennard, has been named the Van Buren County and North Central District Farm Family of the Year. Adam has worked for Petit Jean Electric for 29 years in various engineering and operations positions.
It’s a farming family affair for the McJunkins, as they raise feeder calves and grow hay on 92 acres with the help of their daughters, Sammy, 24; Lacey Belle, 19; and Katie, 17.
“It just means a lot to us, because normally you don’t think of awards with farming, especially with small farms. I feel like it’s the traditions that farm families, especially small farms, continue to build for the next generation that makes the honor so important,” Darla says.
Adam’s strong work ethic on the farm carries over into his work life.
“Adam is a dedicated employee of Petit Jean Electric and always works hard to get the job done, while continually serving our members with pride,” CEO/General Manager Michael Kirkland says. “We’re very proud that he and his family have been recognized for the Farm Family of the Year.” Next, the eight district winners will be judged to determine the 76th annual Arkansas Farm Family of the Year, which will be announced on Dec. 8. The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas are a sponsor of the Arkansas Farm Family of the Year program.
